What is an affirmation?
What is an affirmation? How do they work?
Affirmation is a bit of a buzz word when we talk about mindfulness in today’s society. So, let’s actually take a look at the basics of an affirmation and how to apply them effectively to our daily routine.
According to the Oxford dictionary, the definition of affirmation is: “the action or process of affirming something.”
According to New Age terminology, the definition of affirmation is: “the practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment.”
From the New Age perspective, an affirmation is a positive statement, in the present tense, declaring what you desire is coming into being. If we want to bring something into our life that we are lacking or just want to feel positive, using affirmations will help the process along.
Affirmations can be spoken or written, they can be repeated multiple times a day and they can be changed whenever you like.
For example, if you are wanting to bring more money into your life, (and let’s be honest, who would say no to more money?!) you could use the follow affirmation to say every morning:
“I am unlimited in my wealth. All areas of my life are abundant and fulfilling.” Louise Hay.
If you are wanting to feel fit and healthy, you could use this affirmation:
“Wellness is the natural state of my body.” Louise Hay.
If you want to bring happiness back into your life, then fry this affirmation:
“My day begins and ends with gratitude and joy.” Louise Hay.
There are so many different affirmations to use. As long as the statement is in present tense and focusing on everything happening in the now then the affirmation can work its magic on bringing positivity into your life.
May your affirmations bring you joy, abundance and health.
